Laundress, Conquering the Laundry Avalanche or Not

Is anyone else drowning in this things called laundry??

Can we talk about kids clothing…

So the oldest of our 2 girls is DROWNING in clothes! She is almost 8 years old and has two full dressers that are typically over flowing and more that are hanging up, plus bins for dance/gymnastics. Now this would not be as big of a deal if both girls shared that volume of clothes but they do not! They have different styles and sizes. The oldest is a very petite dancer/gymnast type that has not even broke 50lbs yet! She does not wear anything big (except maybe pajamas). The younger one is a little more thick and solid (built more like her momma lol) more Tomboy-like and is giving the boys a run for their money. So in the girls room we have 3 dressers plus the plastic bins for dance/gymnastics/swimwear and these girls are bursting at the seams! And don’t even get into the shoes the oldest has more than me and my feet have not grown for years! lol. Thankfully we were able to weed out some over this past weekend…the youngest only has like 4 pairs of shoes.

So both boys have a dresser like the girls or very similar in size. (Yes, our household has bought like 4 of those exact Ikea dressers plus numerous other furnishings, i digress). Anyways, the boys unlike the girls, wear about the same size clothes but again have different styles. The oldest like more athletic fabrics and more fitted and absolutely refuses to wear cotton (just don’t tell him that his favorite baggie onesie jammies have cotton in them 😀 lol). Our other boy will wear just about anything including jeans, the catch is that his clothes are very dependent on his “mood” if it is suddenly itchy or too hot (he has sensitivities to fabrics, textures, temperatures, etc…due to his sensory issues – see more here: https://phongbydesign.com/?p=127)

Managing the Mountain ahead…

Now i have yet to be able to “master” laundry for this house of 9, but i have figured out a few things for the 6 of us that i have to keep tabs on:

1) i make the kids, ages 5-9, put their own clothes into the washer with the soap pods and then into the dryer. Yes, we do have to assist with starting them, especially the dryer since we have a stacked unit (which mind you, i personally just do not care for one single bit!)n but the biggest benefit is that i am not the one responsible for them not having clean clothes to wear. Then they are also responsible to put the clothes away, if they don’t fold ’em and they wear wrinkled clothes that’s on them .

2) we use sock nets – then all their socks and underpants are all together so they get washed well in hot water and no one is sorting who’s underwear are who’s same with the missing mismatched sock brigade!

3) i have adapted a different type of laundry sorting style. I have been following “Paige Jordan of FunCheapOrFree” she is video blogger that has a big family! So she is always showing tips for frugal living. Below i have added her laundry video where i have gotten inspiration for sorting the laundry

My next big project, after getting a more functional kitchen, will be a “real” laundry/mud room, i cannot wait! So please stay tuned to see how that goes!
