is it just me….
Am i the only one on the struggle bus?
Okiedokie, so thanks to this “covid-19” (and lets not get started on all the conspiracy theories or what my husband thinks about the virus), all 4 of the kids are on virtual learning. When the 2020-21 school year started in the fall, my second oldest was still able to go to school for a couple hours for 4 days each week due to his IEP, this was a better situation for ALL involved since he needs so much more attention when it comes to school work. Anyways, second term rolls around, all 4 of them finally got the chance to be at school. I’m sure like other districts, as the numbers started to rise again, maybe schools made changes. So right before Thanksgiving break they all went back virtually. No big deal right, after break my IEP-kid would be back to partial school days – WRONG! – our county reached “level purple” and that meant zero in-person learning opportunities.
Welcome to the struggle…
So how may momma’s have kids with IEPs? What are they on the IEP for (keep it simple, like behavioral, academic, etc…please submit a comment!). I know i cannot be the only one with a kid on an IEP that is struggling teaching them with an online platform. Thankfully none of the other kids need the extra additional help, just the general setting up and getting them logged in and the “homework” that is to be done off of the virtual setting. But with my son, its basically sitting with him the whole time, he is very distractible. Yes, some days are better that others, but it’s more of an occasional occurrence that he does not need much help.
That was part of the struggle, the other part is that my mom (who has been a HUGE help), has been helping with schooling for 2 of the kids, my sister-in-law has been working with the other 2. So the issue is not that she is helping, but the going back and forth. I cannot keep things straight! Things get left in one place or the other, i don’t know what has or has not been done. It gets frustrating, still thankful, but annoyed.
So how are you holding up…
How are my other momma’s doing with or without a kid on an IEP? I know that it has been hard on everyone. What are tips and tricks you have figured out during this craziness to keep things rolling? What keeps you and the kid(s) organized with papers and assignments that have to be turned in, we have supply drop-off/pick-up days every 1-2 weeks. How are you keeping your sanity? How are you keeping your kid(s) from turning into tech-zombies (like not glued to some sort of electronic).
